Today I am going to tell y'all about my hair care routine and what I like to use regularly. I didn't list all my styling products just because I want to stick with my basic products that I use the most. Also if you would like I can post about more high end products, but I find that drugstore products work just as well for my hair, so why fix something that ain't broke. I change hair products a lot just to try out more and find some hidden gems. Keep in mind products that work for my hair may not work for your hair type. I have fine hair but it is thick and it is naturally curly/wavy. So with that being said, I guess I will just jump in to it.
Starting with shampoos, I am not to picky with my shampoos as long as it does its job. I want my hair to feel clean and not strip my hair. So my most used would have to be the Herbal Essences Smooth Collection Shampoo. Yes it is old school and I remember using this when I was in elementary school. But is the best drugstore shampoo. It smells like roses, has 0% silicone, and has vitamin E. It is gently but it cleans your hair so good and it doesn't leave your hair feeling brittle.
Next is conditioner, being a women conditioner is a must, I swear I go through twice as much conditioner than shampoo. I have so many favorites but my top one would have to be the Garnier Fructis Hydra Recharge. This conditioner is specifically made for dry hair, and I find it to be amazing. Last summer I went to New York and it was so hot and humid, but this conditioner kept my hair soft and smooth with no frizz what so all.
Another product I love is my Healthy Sexy Hair Soy Tri-Wheat Leave-in Conditioner. A leave-in is so important to my hair care, if I don't use one my hair is a big birds nest and it is nearly impossible to comb though when wet. The Healthy Sexy Hair one is so light weight and doesn't make my hair feel greasy. It leaves my hair so soft and manageable, this leave-in is my holy grail product, I cannot go without it.
If you are having a problem with dandruff, which is really common, so don't be embarrassed. I like to use the Suave Scalp Solutions Nourishing Coconut & Shea Butter Shampoo and Conditioner. I have used the Head & Shoulder but it has always made my scalp feel greasy and gross. But the Suave smell so good and it take care of your dandruff without having to make your hair greasy. Also keep in mind that it will not go away over night and it does take a couple of weeks depending on how bad it is.
A added thing which I think is important is a Deep Conditioner. It is recommended to use one at least once a week. I have two that are my tops favorites: Macadamia Natural Oil Deep Repair Masque and the L'Oreal Total Repair 5 Damage Erasing Balm. They are almost identical but the Macadamia one will just keep your hair softer for longer. Once you use one of these you will not stop, they leave your hair feeling so soft and smelling so good. If you have dry/brittle hair I would try these for sure. Make sure to focus more on the ends than the roots, cause it can make your scalp feel greasy.
If you have an oily scalp or you don't want to wash your hair as often then a dry shampoo will be your best friend. I know a lot of people who will go a week without washing there hair, but there hair never looks oily, because they use a dry shampoo. I recommend not to wash you everyday because it will strip you hairs natural oils and can keep your hair from growing as fast. I like to wash my hair every other day, just cause I can't contain my 3rd day hair. My favorite dry shampoo would hands down be the PSSSSST Instant Dry Shampoo. I swear I hate most dry shampoos cause they make my hair feel gritty and gross, but this is the only dry shampoo I have found to actually make my hair feel cleaner. It makes my roots look matte.
I am obsessed with Clarifying Shampoos. A clarifying shampoo is made to clear your scalp of all product build up. Since I love hairspray and mouse, they can tend to build up in my hair even if I do shampoo. But a clarifying shampoo cleans my hair so well helping with volume. The only bad thing is it can strip your hair so try to use it only when needed (about once a week depending on how many products you use). My favorite is the Garnier Fructis Fortifying Shampoo Hydra Recharge. It has small beads that help scrub the scalp of any build-up.
I am going to included my hairspray since it is so popularly used. My favorite would be the Big Sexy Hair Spray & Play Harder. It is a firm volumizing hairspray with all day hold. I normally don't use a hairspray, but this guy changed my mind. I love that I don't have to check my hair every hour to make sure it hasn't gone crazy. This keeps my hair perfect all day, even in Oklahoma Wind.
Finally here are some tips to help fight frizz and breakage and they are all easy to do.
1. When done with showering, rinse your hair with cold water it will help close you hair follicles and seal your ends to help fight frizz.
2. Do NOT brush your hair when wet, only use a wide tooth comb. This will help with split ends and breakage.
3. Sleep on a silk pillow case. Cotton pillow cases tend to pull and dry out your hair. The silk helps your hair just glide around which will help with frizz.
That is it for my basic hair products. Thank you all for reading and I hope you enjoyed it. If you have any questions about any of the products just leave a comment down below. <3 RR
